After greeting the 18th hour of my day, I was driving back to his place to spend time with him. Back story: He flew out to San Francisco for business this morning. I was famished, didn't plan my meals properly - leaving my stomach begging for nourishment. So I send him a text, "have any food at your place?". He responds with, "I can make you dinner if you like?"
At this point, it was 11:30pm and it's a weeknight. He had an early flight and was probably just waiting for me to come over so we could spend a little time together before both knocking out. Within ten minutes of walking through the door, I was served a full plate of seasoned shrimp with brown rice and edamame, to start!
WOW! I WASN'T EXPECTING THIS...
He took the time and energy to nourish me. The plate of chicken tacos from the truck outside of my work building could have sufficed, but this was so much more. Why this means something to me is because he didn't have to. He chose to.
I felt like I didn't give credit where it was due. So I swipe the code on my phone and the text message begins...
"I want to acknowledge you for two things. 1- The dinner you made for me last night. WAY better than what I walked in your door with. 2- How great you are to me".
THANK THEM. Today. Whoever it is, for whatever it is. Small, big, unmeasurable. It doesn't matter; but it will make a world of difference. Showing your gratitude allows you to express to the Universe that you understand you cannot do this alone. More importantly, you're embracing it too.
When you're out there in the World as someone who acknowledges people for their greatness and contribution, it has a funny way of coming back in your direction.
