We're are all human beings -- we all experience joy, anger, sadness, and a range of similar emotions that control how we act or what we say. Our emotions are triggered by a host of things, one of them being music. We listen to certain genres of music to fit a mood or emotion that we're in. Or sometimes we'll listen to a genre that might bring us into a mood that we hope to be in.
Music has the ability to alter our emotional and physical state and I experienced this first hand this weekend. You can also see this happen when watching a thriller movie, for example. Ever notice how the music in the background changes when the killer is about get the next victim? It's usually a heightened, loud, suspenseful track that will draw the emotion of fear, or terror from you. This also has something to do with our reaction to things, but I'm just focusing on the sound of music today...
The bio-physical effects that music has on us is almost as powerful as the emotional ones. On day 2 of the festival, after about 7+ hours of dancing, I was exhausted and wanted to leave and rest up. I felt this way for about 30 minutes, until what happened? The DJ played one of my favorite songs ever and it was like an adrenaline shot into veins. I instantaneously got hours of energy within seconds!
I learned from many people that certain types of music can give you courage and strengthen your willpower, while other types can relax your nerves and muscles and relieve tension. Think about getting ready to play a big game. I used to play in a softball league and if I didn't listen to a certain mix of songs, my head would be all over the place. Once I listened to my "hype" songs, I became energized and ready to win.
Music is essential to life. It has the power to facilitate altered moods, and even give you energy. In my opinion, there is no life with out Music. Without it, the thought of our very own life-soundtrack would be non-existent.
