Not at all restful, right? And yet, this seems to be normal protocol. At least for me.
I found myself here a few times this past week and a half. I've had the opportunity to have some free time between jobs. The first two days were just what I needed. Lounging without a care. I lost count how many time I pushed a chore for another day. It was my time off! Then that voice started to creep in and with that, my guilt.
My roommate doesn't seem to have this problem. He is very clear: "when I break, I break." That's it. He savors his free time wholeheartedly. You can even phrase it as that he breaks with integrity. Work is not thought about or discussed during his breaks or vacation time. This coming from a guy who works 60 hours a week.
All that guilt and stress is chipping away at you! You truly deserve all the time that is yours. Consider that if you don't go down that deep, dark rabbit hole of making yourself wrong when you're not on the clock will actually have you more effective at your job.
Like always, give it a try. Chill out.
