What are you being busy about? What is it that you're working toward? What is the big picture?
When I read this quote last week, it straightened me up. I can see how often I moving through my day doing "stuff". The "stuff" keeps me from feeling stagnate, but I'm not any closer to my daily or overall life goals. Instead of beating myself up, I started to look. I have been looking at what performance is in life. Performance in the sense of taking action. Even more specifically, efficient action. We get really caught up in the thoughts of what we actions we want to take. Thinking doesn't equal doing. Talking about what you're going to do doesn't equal action. "I mean, I'm getting a game plan together AND really, once I figure out what to do I'll DEFINITELY take action!", might be something you've said before. Consider that you'll never be able to figure out every potential obstacle that may come up once you start making moves.
I've heard it put another way as well that makes it very clear. You're either on the court or in the stands. Simply put. You can be Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady, or the guy with the jersey in the stands bitching and moaning about the missed field goal. They're talking a whole bunch about the game, but they're not actually playing. There's a very large distinction between the two.
Get in the game! If you're thinking about doing it, DO IT. If you get booed by the entire stadium, at least you will know that you're performing. All you can do is catch the ball and run it to the endzone. You can't improve your stride or throw just by discussing what you will do. Play the game and watch the highlights later.
